The central investigation of my work is the search of the beyond, the desire to move from that which does not yet exist to the possibility of what may arise. I enter my creative process through the portal of the natural world where nature’s rhythm and pattern reveal my own, a reverberation I must express. My work echoes the stages, thresholds, and transitions of the natural world, similar to a flower, found passing through the point of perfection, spotting and browning, and twisting its way back to the earth.
By entering nature’s portal, the act of automatic drawing, painting, writing poetry, or assembling disparate objects is a call and response to a universe within that frees me to see, with a renewed perspective, the world and myself. Reclaiming my identity all at once and knowing who I truly am is a gift that transcends the past, present, and future.
Automatic drawing is a necessary segue to my expression. My abstract painting is a synthesis of movement, overlapping layers, texture, shape, and color. I work on canvas, paper, and wood in acrylic and oil and mixed drawing media utilizing my body, uncommon objects, brush, or palette knife. When filled with emotion, I write poetry to capture a sacred moment in response to movement within. I am often found sauntering in salvage yards. They are a playground of infinite possibility and inspiration. I do not know what I will find until I see it. I design and assemble disparate elements that can only become a three-dimensional sculpture by the unexpected.
My expression is rooted in the history of salvation, intuitively expressing my soul in communion with mystery. I discover my investigations resurrecting through the links between nature and spirituality, the present and primordial, the personal and the universal.
Drawing from life and memory, experimenting with the concept of being unblemished, as symbolized by the perfection of flowers, I invite the viewer to consider the unnamed beyond words. I seek to arouse the obscure, to arouse love: the force that connects us all.
Through my work I hope to invite and encourage others to explore their own creative lives and to honor the essence of being human.
